Trees & Roots

Trees & Roots is a large body of work which I started making in July 2016, looking specifically at a combination of form, structure and surface texture in relation to trees, but even more specifically, although not exclusively, trees with externalised/above ground (even aerial) roots.

I have spent my life loving, respecting, and in awe of trees.

Just as the structure of the actual trees is important, so are the physical attributes of the works being a combination of dimensions (from very small to fairly large), format/orientation (almost square; long and narrow; portrait or landscape) and the palette (often monochromatic/tonal). The medium chosen for each work is also very important, and this covers a wide range: etchings; acrylic; charcoal; woodcuts (including being embedded in screen prints); screen prints; multi-screen monoprints; rubbings of woodcut plates; photographs; and ceramic sculptures.
