Lines

In January 2020. I started work on a new project called Lines, looking at linear type structures and often including their (distorted) reflections.

Think bridges, American freight trains, railway tracks, overhead wires, staircases, the underside of a roof (e.g. airport terminals), and certain architects (such as Calatrava and Candela, Piano and Rogers etc.).

Fragments of buildings; buildings of fragments.

Lines II (Valencia)

I was about to go back to this project (after working on my Trees & Roots project) and had done the artwork for two new works (about The Kennedy Center, Boston and The British Museum, London) bringing in graffiti and political elements as well as the architectural but, as I mention on my Skyscapes project, my life changed suddenly and I needed a new direction.

Lines I and II are triple images reminiscent of the Shard in London. These are screen prints with metallic backgrounds, measuring 97.5 cm x 75 cm, and are dated 2020. Lines III to VI (2020/21; 54 cm x 41 cm) show, for instance, parts of a staircase in the Valencia CF football stadium and of the new World Trade Center station in New York. They were printed in varying densities of charcoal.
